How to make Wheel of Time game work under Linux

You need

Installing WineX

To obtain WineX, you can find on the website of Transgaming or Download it here. To install WineX on Linux Mandrake, just double-click on the file named "winex3-3.3-1.i386.rpm" and click "install" (You need root password).

WineX is now accessible by the command "winex3". To open a MS-Windows programm jeust type "winex3 ./myprogramm.exe".

Configure WineX

You need to configure WineX. You need to edit the ~/.transgaming/config. Make shure you have all the drives you need. Here is my configureation file:

;; "Filesystem"="xxx" (supported types are 'msdos'/'dos'/'fat', 'win95'/'vfat', 'unix')

Make the *.exe files opens with WineX

Under KDE, you have to configure Konqueror. Open a Konqueror window. The nclich on menu "Configuration" and choose "Configure Konqueror". You have to select "File Association". Find the filetype application/x-msdos-program. You have to add the extension "*.exe" and the programm winex3:
configure window

add extension
Add application window

Install Wheel of Time

You need to install the game. To do that, open the CD-Rom folder (you have to insert the first CD-Rom) and open "setup.exe" with WineX:
Installation window

At the end of installation, close the Installer.

Installing the Patch v333

You need to install the patch. If you don't the game doesn't work on the Internet. You can download it here or here (Thanks to Lews). Oen it with WineX:
WinZip window
Chick "Setup":
Patch installation window
When the patch is installed, close the installer.

Disable CD protection (Safedisc 1)

To make Wheel of Time work on Linux, you need to disable the orotection. You may be need the file dplayerx.dll (Put it in "~/TransGaming_Drive/WheelOftime/System") and Unsafedisc programm. Uncompress unsafedisc and run it with WineX:
Unsafedisc main window

Click "Decrypt Game" and select file "C:\WheelOfTime\System\WoT.icd" :
UnSafeDisc file selector
Click open. if you have the Window Cannot open dplayerx.dll!, put the file dplayerx.dll into your System folder and retry. You must have the window:
job done! icd decrypted.
If it doesn't work, try to copy this executable into your System folder (don't forget to backup the old one). If it works, rename "testme.exe" in "wot.exe".

End

The Wheel of Time may work. To run the game execute "winex3 ~/TransGaming_Drive/WheelOfTime/System/wot.exe". If you want an icon, you can use this one:
PNG icon

If the Wheel of Time doesn't work, you can contact me in my E-mail (mildred593 AT online DOT fr).
